Pilot’s family thanks Good Samaritans

The family of a pilot who was killed in a fiery crash after his small plane slammed into a road near Vancouver’s airport is thanking the Good Samaritans who tried to save him Luc Fortin, 44, was one of nine people who were on the plane that fell from the sky after an oil light triggered a return to the airport.

Fortin’s father-in-law John Rayson told a news conference Saturday that the family is also grateful to the first responders who came to the aid of his son-in-law and the other passengers.

Fortin died in hospital Thursday, about five hours after he was pulled from the burning wreckage.

“We certainly send our heart-felt wishes and our prayers to all those survivors, for the best possible recovery,” Rayson said.

A trust fund has been set up for Fortin’s wife, Dagne, and the couple’s 16-month-old daughter Katelyn.
“We’d just thank everybody, and Katelyn’s dad will be missed a lot,” Dagne said. “He was a good man.”
