It appears a young woman fell from a hang glider to her death last April because of pilot error.
So says the Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association of Canada, as it investigates the death of 27-year-old Lenami Godinez near Agassiz.
Vice-President Bruce Busby says the group looked at the gear and found no problems.
It looks like Godinez wasn’t connected to the glider, and the pilot hadn’t done the proper checks.
Busby says people should remember this is the first gliding death in Canada, “So I guess the message we try to convey to people is to be diligent, do your homework and come on out and join us. And we’ll make sure that we put every process in place to make sure that this is the first and last time this has ever happened.”
He says the Association plans to recommend ways to prevent similar incidents.
The pilot, Jon Orders, meanwhile, is slated to go to trial next spring on a count of obstructing justice, after he allegedly swallowed the flight’s video memory card.
