Pledge Day raises more than $1.7 million for the CKNW Orphans’ Fund

More than 1.7 million dollars.

That’s how much was raised Friday — the 35th annual Pledge Day for the CKNW Orphans’ Fund.

Executive Director, Jamie Hunt says that number breaks a record set back in 2006.

“Last year was 1.22 million so you look at almost half a million dollars more that goes directly back to the programs that we support, more kids come to the Orphans’ Fund picnic in June, like the board of directors is just going to be having a hey day at our next meeting, trying to decide where this extra bonus money goes to, and it’s all thanks to all our very generous donors.”

The CKNW Orphans’ Fund gets grant applications from children, families, and organizations focused on programs for children.

Grants are given out each month.
