Police go for record number of riot charges

Nearing the one-year anniversary of the Stanley Cup riot, Vancouver Police are going for a record.

The VPD are recommending 82 charges against another 25 suspected rioters, and are expected to recommend charges against another 100 in the coming months.

That means the riot will likely lead to the most criminal charges in one single event in Canadian history.

At the same time, the riot investigation team is being downsized to two-dozen officers.

A change in command as well – Inspector Lawrence Rankin will take over the I-RIT squad while Inspector Les Yeo moves to traffic services.
