Police presence on bridges due to search for armed robbery suspect

Drivers trying to get to, or from, the North Shore Saturday evening were slowed to a halt by lane closures and armed police officers.

North Vancouver RCMP say they were stopping cars on the Lions Gate and Ironworkers Memorial Bridges, looking for a suspect in an armed robbery.

Mounties say a man in his fifties, reportedly carrying a handgun, had made off with an unknown amount of cash from a Supervalu.

They say they were looking for a black SUV on the bridges, but did not find the suspect.
