The Crown Corporation responsible for the Port Mann Bridge says two degrees is the magic number they’re watching out for.
Mike Proudfoot, CEO of the Transportation Investment Corporation, says if the temperature drops to two or below with snow, there could be a repeat of last week’s incident where hundreds of cars were damaged, and the bridge shut down thanks to ice falling from support cables.
He says they are closely monitoring the weather, and have a plan if the temperature drops.
“What we will be looking for is any accumulation on the cables themselves, then identify and determine if there is any risk. Public safety is number one.”
Proudfoot adds progress is under way for immediate and long term solution.
