It’s been a noisy, nightly occurrence in Quebec for several weeks and now supporters of that Province’s striking students are bringing the noise to the streets of Vancouver.
The banging of pots and pans has become a staple of Quebec’s student demonstrations. Now, for one night only, the movement is going national in what’s being called Casserole Night Canada.
Organizer Derrick O’Keefe, “If you’ve followed any of the news from the last week in Montreal, these things just sort of spontaneously turn into protest marches. People go out on their patios, with some pots and pans, and eventually join up with their neighbours and go for a walk.”
Vancouver’s largest demonstration starts Wednesday night at 8pm outside the Art Gallery.
More than 30 cities nationwide are expected to take part.
