Premier announces “Destination BC”

More than three years after the BC government killed Tourism BC, the industry-led program has been revived under a new name.

‘Destination BC’ –a new Crown corporation to market BC tourism.”

Premier Christy Clark wasn’t in government when her predecessor, Gordon Campbell,  disbanded Tourism BC a few months before the province hosted the world during the 2010 Olympics..

“When I decided to run for leader, I said, ‘Look, we’re going to do things differently, I’m going to be head of a government that really listens to people. I can’t think of any sector that is better positioned to advise government on how to market our province than the tourism sector.”

When Destination BC takes over in April, the goal will be to boost annual tourism revenues to 18-billion dollars by 2016.

Last year’s total was 13.3-billion.
