Premier withdraws from energy strategy over Northen Gateway demands

“It’s not a national energy strategy if B.C. doesn’t sign on.”

That, from Premier Christy Clark on the bid by premiers to put together a national energy strategy.

Reporter Alison Auld of the Canadian Press tells CKNW that Clark stepped out of meetings at the Council of the Federation in Halifax to speak to reporters.

“She said that she could not sign onto any kind of pan-Canadian national energy strategy until this issue involving Alberta and the Northern Gateway is addressed. It might not be resolved, but they need to sit down.”

Clark is concerned B.C. is bearing too much of the risk for the multi-billion dollar Northern Gateway oil pipeline, without getting its fair share of the profits.

As for the energy strategy, Clark says she hopes work on it continues, but adds B.C. just won’t be a part of it.
