Protests against the Harper government’s omnibus budget bill are being held across the country.
Here in the Lower Mainland, demonstrators gathered at Heritage Minister James Moore’s office in Port Moody.
Critics have condemned Bill C-38 for lumping together more than 70 pieces of legislation, including changes to the fisheries act and environmental policies.
Local organizer Peg James is also calling on at least 13 current Tories to join their cause – and vote against the bill.
“An unfortunate part of our democracy is the notion that the party has to vote as a block. It prevents individual MPs from really representing their constituents.”
Protests are being held across the country.
On Monday, groups such as Greenpeace and the David Suzuki Foundation will darken their websites to protest the budget bill.
