Rally planned against China’s treatment of North Korean refugees

Members of Vancouver’s Korean community are staging a protest Monday – against the Chinese government’s handling of North Korean refugees.

Eunice Oh with the Korean Society of B.C. is anticipating more than 200 demonstrators will show up at the Chinese consulate.

The group is demanding the Chinese government stop the repatriation of North Korean refugees who have fled the country in search of a better life.

“They must be treated as refugees, granted asylum and allowed the basic human right to survival.”

Oh says when the North Koreans are sent back home, they can face jail time or even execution.

The rally gets underway at 11 a.m.
