RCMP investigating after Surrey man accidentally shoots himself outside home

A man ended up accidentally shooting himself with his own gun while chasing what he believed to be a suspicious vehicle in his Surrey neighborhood.

RCMP Staff Sergeant Blair McColl says they were called out to 70A Avenue at 125th Street just after 8 last night.

“The investigation is continuing, but at this point we’re not looking for anybody else.  We have seized the firearm.”

As for whether the gun was registered to the man, McColl says that’s part of the investigation.

McColl says the man may have responded with the gun because he believed his neighbor’s home had been broken into recently.

He is expected to be fine.
