VANCOUVER – The RCMP say they’ve had to release a 19-year-old Calgary man arrested after a fatal head-on crash on the highway between Vancouver and Whistler Saturday.
But Sgt. Peter Thiessen says the investigation into whether the man was impaired by drugs is continuing, calling such investigations complex and challenging.
He says once all the evidence has been gathered, police are confident the investigation will move forward.
It’s alleged the Calgary man was behind the wheel of a Ford pick-up truck that crossed the centre line of the Sea to Sky Highway and slammed into a limousine.
The limo driver, a 54-year-old Metro Vancouver man, died after his vehicle exploded and was engulfed in flames.
Thiessen calls the crash a terrible tragedy that resulted in the death of an innocent driver.
