It would have been Maple Batalia’s 20th birthday this Sunday.
Just in time, the murdered teen’s family has collected 50-thousand dollars to set up a memorial fund, “You know, it’s a sad circumstance, but it is just so heartening to see the response of the community.”
Joanne Curry, Director of Simon Fraser University’s Surrey Campus, says the teen’s family and friends have been busy gathering donations from the community and local business.
The bursary will help support a student interested in health sciences, as Batalia was.
Police are still looking for who shot Batalia dead last September in a parking lot near the Surrey campus.
