Resident doctors sign new deal

Lost in the shadow of the BC Government coming to terms with the BCGEU, the Premier has also announced that resident doctors have signed a new deal.

Health Minister Margaret MacDiarmid says the agreement covers 1,100 members.

“It covers a four year period so it is actually two years of retroactivity and two years into the future so it goes through to March of 2014 and we have done it within our co-operative gains mandate so there is a modest compensation increase for the two years going forward”

MacDiarmid says resident doctors are hard working health care workers who are coming out of doing undergraduate work.

The Government is still bargaining with the Hospital Employees Union, among others.
