Revving down, luxury car show moves on out

Vancouver’s Luxury and Supercar Weekend (LSW) wrapped up yesterday at VanDusen Botanical Gardens, drawing a larger than expected crowd of car enthusiasts and glitterati.

Alexandra Straub, spokesperson for LSW, was ecstatic with this year’s turnout.

“Our goal was to sell 6,000 tickets and it looks like we exceeded that,” Straub said yesterday.

LSW introduced daily fashion shows and attracted socialite stars from the upcoming TV series Housewives of Vancouver, who sat in the front row on Saturday for Boboli and Max Mara fashion shows.

A McLaren MP3-12C was among the top attractions for car enthusiasts.

“This is the total package,” said Michael Provenzano, president of Lower Mainland Performance Driver’s Club. “They (McLaren) have a fabulous Formula 1 history and for them to make a road car is amazing.”

The Bugatti Veyron, the world’s fastest road-legal production car, can reach a top speed of 431 km/h and was also highly rated among showgoers.

“This was top of my list because you will not see this car driving around Vancouver. You can’t insure this car in B.C.” said car aficionado Lauren Dempsey of the dangerously powerful 1,000-horsepower engine.

While she wishes the Bugatti was in her garage, she will be waiting for the lottery, as it was the most expensive car at the show with a base value at $ 1.9 million.
