The Deputy Premier is wading into an internal dispute over the BC Liberal nomination process in the riding of Abbotsford South.
Rich Coleman says Abbotsford councillor Moe Gill didn’t even want to run in the riding.
“Moe Gill signed a letter that he sent to the party saying that he wanted to no longer run in Abbotsford South but wanted to run in Abbotsford Mission. He signed that letter I wasn’t present when he did that. I met with Moe a few months ago and had a chat with him about running and you know encouraged him to do so I did tell him that there were two options which were the two ridings.”
Coleman praised Darryl Plecas as solid candidate for the party and someone he has worked with in the past.
“Back when I was Solicitor General he actually put together a criminal…an international crime research lab in cooperation with police, both RCMP and others, in British Columbia at the Fraser Valley university.”
Plecas has been acclaimed as the BC Liberal candidate for Abbotsford South.
Coleman doesn’t think these kinds of situations are all that unusual.
“You always get that when you get nomination fights sometimes you get people who think there should always be sort of like a coronation.”
A claim Gill signed up 1600 members in a bid to secure the nomination in Abbotsford South, is also being called false by the BC Liberal party.
