Richmond woman convicted of 1992 murder, denied bail

A Richmond woman who killed her husband’s mistress almost 20 years ago has been denied bail.

A jury convicted Jean Ann James last fall of first-degree murder, in the 1992 death of Gladys Wakabayashi.

The 41-year-old victim was found dead in her Shaugnessy home with her throat slit.

Several years later, James confessed to the murder to an undercover officer and was arrested three years ago.

She was given the mandatory sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.

James has appealed the guitly verdict.

A BC Court of Appeal Judge has denied her bail, saying she poses a threat to public safety.
