Riot report heading to council

Debate over the June 15 Stanley Cup riot is set to switch forums today, from the public realm to Vancouver’s council chambers.

A special council meeting has been called for 2 p.m. today at city hall so that councillors can be briefed on the city’s own internal riot review that was released Thursday hours after John Furlong and Douglas Keefe released the findings of their independent report.

The session could be far from civil, as mayoral challenger and lone NPA Coun. Suzanne Anton thoroughly combed the report yesterday for more ammunition in her ongoing campaign against Gregor Robertson’s involvement in the events.

“The piece that has struck me constantly throughout is the lack of accountability,” Anton said of the report.

The one thing Anton thinks is missing in both the city and independent reports is the voice of the public.

“I want to hear from the employees trapped in stores while this was going on,” she said.
