The first Stanley Cup rioter to avoid jail time may have part of his sentence reduced.
Robert Snelgrove was handed a conditional sentence earlier this week after pleading guilty to taking part in last year’s riot.
He must still spend more than five months under house arrest, but his community service order of 150 hours may eventually be reduced to 50.
Provincial court judge Gregory Rideout says he is willing to entertain the reduction out of fairness and after recognizing this sentence could be used as a precedent for dozens of other rioters facing charges over the next several months.
Snelgrove was not in court this morning to hear the judge cut him a break.
No word yet on when the probation order could be reduced, but he is due back in court on the afternoon of july 12th.
