Rioter/thief gets house arrest not jail time

A man in his mid-20’s, who stole cosmetics from Sears during the Stanley Cup riot, has learned his fate.

Robert Snelgrove will be under 24-hour house arrest at his parents’ home in Coquitlam for three months for his part in the riot and will receive a two month curfew period after that.

Crown Counsel Neil MacKenzie says the Crown was pursuing a shorter sentence but in jail, “Well, it’s a different penalty than what the Crown was seeking. I think some would view an actual jail sentence, even of a shorter duration as being a more severe consequence than a conditional sentence.”

Snelgrove must also pay a 500-dollar fine and write a letter of apology to the City of Vancouver.
