We’ll find out Friday whether disgraced an ex-RCMP officer will go to jail for obstructing justice.
Monty Robinson, now 42, spent nearly four years on paid suspension before quitting as a Mountie last week – the same day his sentence hearing started in New Westminster.
In October 2008, his Jeep collided with motorcyclist Orion Hutchinson, killing the 21-year-old from Delta.
Robinson, off-duty at the time, admitted to drinking two shots of vodka shortly thereafter. That ruined evidence he may have been impaired behind the wheel.
Prosecutors want him to spend at least three months behind bars, while the maximum penalty for obstruction is ten years.
Robinson’s now in treatment for alcoholism and post-traumatic stress disorder, but his lawyer has confirmed he didn’t seek help before he was convicted in March.
