Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver faces Civil Suit

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver is facing a civil suit from a woman who claims she had a sexual relationship with one of its priests, beginning when she was 17 in 1987.

Kathleen Taylor’s claim describes alleged abuses over a period of years while father Damien Cooper served at Holy Rosary Cathedral and other parishes in Vancouver, Aldergrove and Squamish.

She claims that after she disclosed to abuse to the church in 1994, she was told by Archbishop Adam Exner that cooper would be sent to a treatment center in the United States.

It’s not clear if that happened, nor is it clear where he is now.

A spokesman for the Archdiocese told the Vancouver sun that the church apologizes to Taylor, agrees she was wronged and will go to court to determine appropriate compensation.
