Route of new Port Mann rapid bus is temporary

Translink says the route of the new Port Mann rapid bus will change once construction on the number one highway is complete.

Spokesperson Derek Zabel says the buses current stop at Braid street skytrain station, going into Vancouver, is temporary.

“Once contruction is complete we will take the off ramps that lead onto Government street over near Lougheed station then the bus will feed into Lougheed station so people will have the best of both worlds they will have a connection to the Millenium line that will lead into Vancouver or lead over into Surrey and then they will also have that connection on the Evergreen line into the Tri-City’s.”

Zabel says Translink expects the 555 bus will also be more packed in the new year when holidays end, and school is back in.

“Keep in mind it is December third so there is a lot of people who that are already on vacation, or leading into Christmas hoidays and taking some of that vacation time, some classes aren’t even running right now. i think you will truly start to see a mad dash onto that 555 just…maybe a couple weeks after january is when you are going to see those buses become a little busier.”

He says so far they are happy with relatively speedy trip times albeit with some delays getting off the highway at Brunette.
