Saanich police allege man tried to bite officer, spat on another’s face

A 28-year-old Saanich man is accused of violently spitting in a police officer’s face early this morning.

Staff Sgt. Scott Treble says the man had been involved in an earlier fight at a wedding and the violence spilled over to the man’s home.

Treble says the man’s father called police for help around 2 a.m.

“His son was quite drunk. He tried to bite one of our officers on two occasions and after we got this man handcuffed, he was walking out of the residence and chose to spit significantly directly right into the face and into the eyes of one of the other arresting officers.”

Treble adds the man will face charges of assaulting a police officer, and breaching previous bail conditions.
