Search continues for missing special needs woman

Authorities says the weather couldn’t be better to find her, but the size of the area around Port Moody’s Sasamat Lake isn’t helping them locate 21-year old Joy Zhang.

Mounties, search and rescue crews, the coast guard and Zhang’s family are all out looking for the special needs woman.

They have set up a command post at White Pine Beach and are scouring the trails after Zhang walked away from a group outing yesterday.

Leader Dwight Yochim says crews are running out of ideas for where she might be hiding, but they still have hope.

“The theory is that individuals with her mental capacity have an extremely high survival rate for many days and it’s only getting down to about 12 at night…she has a very high survivability rate, we just need to figure out where she is hiding”

A friend who also disappeared with Zhang was found safe last night by helicopters looking for heat patterns.
