Seniors’ advocate on the table in B.C.

Health Minister Margaret MacDiarmid has introduced a bill that will lead to the first ever seniors’ advocate in Canada.

MacDiarmid says the government consulted the public last year after the provincial ombudsman issues a scathing review of seniors’ care.

“We heard during consultation around the province a number of key areas that people were concerned about, so housing was a particular concern and indeed, staying in the home of one’s choice, issues around transportation – some things of course that are outside of the health care system entirely – but it’s too allow the seniors to have that voice.”

But MacDiarmid can’t say when the advocate’s office might actually be up and running.
