Sex charge dropped, outrage follows

A Vancouver rape crisis worker is commending the victim of an alleged sex assault at a 2010 rave in Pitt Meadows for speaking to media Wednesday.

Daisy Kler, with Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter, says she joins the teen in her and her family’s outrage that a sex assault charge was dropped a day earlier in the case.

The girl, who can’t be identified, said she understood why victims don’t usually report the crime.

Kler says it’s because of an “abysmally” low conviction rate, “Many women believe that it’s too much and it’s too hard to continue and certainly, they get the message, from this case, they get a strong message that if you try to use the criminal system, it’s a lot of trouble and you will not get justice.”

She adds witnesses need to come forward and hold the offenders accountable.
