SFU’s TSSU heads into mediation with university

After pickets at SFU cancelled hundreds of classes, the teaching support staff union is heading to mediation with the university over the weekend.

TSSU spokesperson Jeff Zurek says they’ve been without a contract for over two years.

“We’re extremely pleased the pressure we put on by having so many classes cancelled by our members respecting CUPE lines, we’re moving towards a collective agreement for the first time in over 27 months.”

Meanwhile, members of CUPE local 3338 and the TSSU will be picketing outside of SFU’s Woodward and Harbour campuses this weekend.

If an agreement isn’t reached, the unions have declared they will picket all three SFU campuses Wednesday.
