The first step has been taken that could see the mother and uncle of a young Maple Ridge woman return to India to face murder-conspiracy charges.
An extradiction hearing date has been set for the end of October, for Malkit Kaur Sidhu and Surjit Singh Badesha.
Sidhu’s 25-year-old daughter Jaswinder was murdered 11 years ago, about a year after allegedly scandalizing her wealthy family by marrying a poor rickshaw driver in Punjab.
The wedding followed a four year clandestine, long-distance relationship.
Jaswinder and her new husband were attacked by a group of men with the husband badly beaten and Jaswinder abducted.
Her body was found the next day with her throat slit.
