Skier injured on Hollyburn Mountain Saturday passes away

A man who fell about ten feet into an embankment while backcountry skiing on Hollyburn Mountain Saturday, has now died.

West Vancouver Police Sgt. Paul Skelton says the 26 year old Vancouver man passed away Sunday afternoon.

“He was described by his skiing partner as being an avid and experienced backcountry skier.  It’s also my understanding they had the proper avalanche equipment with them at the time.”

It happened on Hollyburn Ridge near the Baden Powell Trail.

Skelton says while the location is a backcountry ski area, a Cypress Mountain security official told him there is no indication the two skiers by-passed any warning or danger signs.
