Skiier rescued in North Shore Backcountry

Another successful day for North Shore Search and Rescue.

A 51-year-old man was on the East Face of West Vancouver’s Hollyburn Mountain when he injured his knee while backcountry skiing.

His friend called 9-1-1 to say they needed help getting out.

Doug Pope with North Shore Search and Rescue says four hours later the man was rescued.

“We had teams go up assisted by Cypress Nordic with snowmobiles and went up and then hiked to the subject.  He was bum-sliding on the way down and we were able to get him down to snowmobiles and get him out.”

Pope says if the weather was better a helicopter would have been used in the rescue.
