It’s getting colder out there, creating havoc for bus drivers in Metro Vancouver.
Translink spokesman Derek Zabel says the early-morning commute wasn’t bad.
But the snow is now turning to ice on the roads
Buses are slipping around everywhere, but here’s one of the worst areas reported by drivers:
“Basically the West Side of Vancouver right now is a proverbial skating rink. Lots of bus drivers have been sending in reports, it’s a really slippery section. We’re seeing a lot of spun out vehicles in intersections and accidents. So there’s some significant delays heading out to UBC right now.”
Zabel says bus riders should dress warmly and expect delays of between 30 and 50 minutes on some routes.
The bad weather is causing flight delays at Vancovuer International Airport.
Most of the trips delayed are to locations within BC.
BC Ferries has cancelled all sailings between Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland because of high winds.
They hope to resume service with the 3pm trips.
Spokesperson Deborah Marshall says some of the smaller routes have been affected as well.
“One of the three ships in the Southern Gulf Islands is continuing to run, that’s out of Swartz Bay. But looking at the Tsawwassen to the Southern Gulf Islands route the Queen of Nanaimo, we had suspended that vessel and we do expect that ship to resume around the 3pm mark as well”.
