The head of the BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils says School Districts have been asking for more flexibility in the school calendar.
This, after the Province announced a bill to eliminate the standard calendar and pave the way for just that, “I think we will see more discussions on spring break; whether one week or two weeks is working for parents. And I think, that we’ll also see in some of our other communities, where perhaps a more balanced school would be a benefit to the community. We’ll see some of those conversations occur.”
Ann Whiteaker says the bill won’t bring changes overnight, and parents would be consulted. She adds a District in the Gulf Islands runs classes only four days a week, while others may benefit from later start times for high school students.
