With fare gates coming to most Skytrain stations, will that mean fewer transit cops out checking tickets?
Translink’s CEO says fare gates and the Compass Card are still on schedule to be brought out next spring.
And with those new technologies, Ian Jarvis says comes the opportunity, to possibly reassign transit police, “To me, it provides an opportunity to re-allocate the resources that are presently dedicated to fare-checking to re-deploy those services to ensure a safe and secure travelling environment for our public.”
An independent audit of Transit Police earlier this month suggested crime rates on the system continue to decline.
Only recently has the BC Government introduced legislation that would allow authorities to actually enforce transit fines.
