Squamish signs new RCMP deal but wanted more “negotiations”

Squamish the last municpality left has now signed the RCMP deal but they aren’t happy about it.

 Mayor Rob Kirkham is finally talking about his concerns chief among them costs, including the new RCMP headquarters in Surrey.

 Despite the the province and Ottawa signing the deal months ago Kirkham says he thought there was wiggle room to keep negotiating..

  “Like I said we had …this is the third deadline that we had been facing and we were expecting and hoping that we would still be able to negotiate and work through these things.”

 And the province bascially said no way on that front?

 “Thats correct.”

 Kirkham says the may use the two year opt out clause but signed to avoid an extra $ 450,000 dollar budget hit.
