St. Paul’s in dire need of restoration money

Less than a year before BC voters head back to the polls, there’s more talk of replacing Vancouver’s St. Paul’s Hospital.

Doctors are again complaining about the old hospital’s ability to withstand an earthquake, over-crowding and pests.

Health Minister Mike de Jong says they’re actively considering the next steps with respect to this project, but his statement doesn’t reference possibly moving the hospital to another site.

All Premier Clark will say is, “It’s been a real high priority for the Government. I know that Mike de Jong has been talking to Providence Health Care about it, so you’ll see more news about that soon in the coming weeks and months, I think.”

There’s been talk of moving the hospital for the past decade, but de Jong says taxpayers have already invested close to 90-million dollars in St. Paul’s since 2001.
