Stand up for adult education

Students, parents and teachers spoke out at a public forum Wednesday night about how adult education has helped them. This, in the face of Provincial funding cuts.

The Education Ministry had chopped funding for some courses that lead to high school completion, and changed how others are funded. One of those decisions has been fixed, but Vancouver School Trustee Mike Lombardi says all the money must be restored.

At the forum, hosted by Lombardi and fellow Trustees, students spoke about how adult education gave them a second chance at a meaningful career.

Now, the Trustees plan to take that feedback to Victoria, “We’ll be asking for a meeting, and we know the Minister has already established a committee which is looking at the changes. So we’re going to be making sure that our input goes to that committee and directly to the Minister.”

Vancouver has six adult education centres.
