Stanley Cup riot: Mayor frustrated with slow pace of justice

Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson says he’s frustrated by the slow pace of justice one year after the Stanley Cup riot.

“I think we are all frustrated by the length of time and the slow pace of justice. That said, making sure that it’s done right is paramout and I think seeing the sentence that was meted out by the judge the other day, a month in jail for someone without a record, I think demonstrates that this is a very serious offence, participating in a riot.”

The mayor says he is satisfied with the sentences handed out by the courts so far.

“You know, in my personal opinion I think they’re about right.  I think there going to make sure people definiately think twice in the future, knowing they will go to jail if they participate in a riot and if they do more than that in the riot it gets worse.”

Robertson was speaking on the Bill Good show on CKNW.
