Stanley Cup rioter avoids spotlight

In June, he said he was “choosing to wave the protection his age gave him as a young offender” to “own up” for what he did.

But now that his case is before the courts, a 17-year-old accused Stanley Cup rioter appears to no longer want the public attention.

He was charged with participating in a riot and three counts of arson back in December, but the teen’s lawyer says no application has been made to remove the protections given under the youth criminal justice act.

That means, despite getting a special court order to make admissions and a very public apology days after the riot, the 17-year-old can no longer be mentioned by name.

Even though it’s been before the courts for several months, no guilty plea has been entered in the case.
