Keep your fall boots and trench coats in the closet, Vancouver — for a little while at least.
The summer sun may be late, but it’s heating up for this second weekend of September.
Environment Canada meteorologist Gary Dickinson predicts Saturday’s temperature may break the 26.1 C record with highs of 31 C inland and 25 C over the water.
The high-pressure ridge causing the warm weather will hang over Western Canada until next week when temperatures are expected to return to an average of 20 C.
Seawall walkers on Thursday were happy to hear the news of possible record-breaking heat.
“I guess it makes up for the summer,” said Jean Matute, whose son grinned widely from his stroller.
The pair have been walking most mornings this summer and will not shy away from highs this weekend.
Michelle McGuire is new to Vancouver and has been taking advantage of sunny days along the waterfront to walk her dog, Kitty.
“It’s supposed to stay nice. I’m the happiest person in the world,” McGuire said.
Boating and the beach may be on McGuire’s list of things to do this weekend but she is just happy to experience a few weeks of Vancouver summer, the one everyone keeps telling her about.
