One Mulcair supporter says British Columbia will be well off with the Quebec MP as the new federal NDP leader.
Michael Byers, Mulcair’s campaign co-chair in B.C., says that despite worries Mulcair is too attached to his Quebec roots, he shares the concerns and priorities of those on the West Coast.
“He’s a proven environmentalist. He understands the concerns of progressives in B.C. … He’s come out very strongly against the Northern Gateway pipeline.”
Byers says he also expects B.C.’s Nathan Cullen, who finished third in the leadership race, to be a key member of Mulcair’s team.
