Surrey drowning victims identified

The BC Coroners’ Service has confirmed the identity of a toddler and grandmother who drowned in a Surrey swimming pool on Sunday.

RCMP call it a “tragic start to the summer.”

The victims have been identified as 20-month-old Ivan Yousif, and 51-year-old Warina Nissan, both of Surrey.

Both were spotted unconscious in the pool, pulled from the water and rushed to Royal Columbian Hospital.

The toddler died the same day; the grandmother passed away last night.

Police and other authorities are saying with the hot weather now here, it’s important to keep an eye on children around water at all times.
