Surrey teacher suspended after being charged with drug trafficking

A substitute teacher in Surrey has been suspended after allegedly moonlighting as a pot dealer in Vancouver and he’s not just accused of selling marijuana.

Richmond RCMP Corporal Sherrdean Turley says Eugenio Alfonso Bahamonde was arrested near an elementary school in Vancouver on November 7th.

“The driver was also seen smoking what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette.  The vehicle drove away and was pulled over in a neighbouring parking lot where the driver was arrested and issued a 24-hour driving prohibition.”

Doug Strachan with the Surrey School District says the 41-year old has already been suspended.

“For teachers on call, they’re not regular, full-time, salaried employees. They would be paid as needed when they worked.”

Bahamonde’s next court date is January 16th.
