Suspect wanted after young girl touched inappropriately

RCMP in North Vancouver are warning parents about an incident of sexual interference yesterday that involved two 9-year-old girls.

Sgt. Peter Thiessen says a man approached the girls, who were out on their own, around 4 p.m. in the 1400 block of Ross Road. He asked them to come with him to see an old tree.

“Once the girls were down the trail, the male suspect asked both girls to take a photograph with him separately. And while one of the nine-year-old was posing for the photograph, the lone male touched the young girl in a completely inappropriate sexual manner.”

The girls then left and weren’t hurt.

Thiessen says the girls did not know the suspect, who is described as white in his 50s.

He says police do not believe the incident is related to a sexual assault last month of a teen who was at home alone on her Capilano Road.

Thiessen reminds parents to be extra vigilant when letting their children venture out by themselves.
