Richmond RCMP are looking into a suspicious package found around 5:30 Friday evening in the 3800 block of Shell Road.
Cpl. Sherrdean Turley says the scene was contained, the Explosive Disposal Unit was called out, Richmond Fire was put on stand-by, and roads in the area were closed.
“Two houses were evacuated simply as a precaution and the Explosive Disposal Unit did a controlled detonation safely in the area.”
Turley says it’s not known whether the package contained explosives, but it was treated as if it did.
The roads are now open and the people evacuated have been allowed back home.
