Tears, apologies at Missing Women Inquiry

A former Vancouver Police Sergeant who left the force to work for the RCMP  is rejecting VPD claims they did everything they could to catch serial killer Robert Pickton.

It happened at the Missing Women Inquiry, while Geremy Powell was being cross-examined by the lawyer for a retired Coquitlam mountie.

Ravi Hira challenged a report prepared by Deputy Chief Doug Lepard, saying Vancouver Police failed to devote more resources to finding the missing women, refused to acknowledge the victims were dead because no bodies had been found and had no solid leads to Pickton.

Later, Powell cried as she apologized to the families for failing them.

Powell wasn’t the only former VPD officer to offer apologies to the families this morning.

Former Inspectors Fred Biddlecombe and Dan Dureau also wrapped up their testimony at the  inquiry saying they wish they could have done more to catch Pickton sooner.
