Terry Fox Runs to pay tribute to the late Betty Fox

Two inspirations within the Fox family will be honoured at this year’s Terry Fox Run.

The legacy of the inspirational Port Coquitlam amputee who attempted to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research lives on through the 31st edition of the annual Terry Fox Run.

But participants this year will also be running in memory of Terry’s mother, Betty Fox, who died June 17.

Several run organizers have decided to dedicate their runs to Betty, one of the key individuals who helped carry on her son’s goal by establishing the Terry Fox Foundation.

“She was the driving force to make sure [the Terry Fox Run] happened, her presence will be deeply missed,” said Donna White, the provincial director for the Terry Fox Foundation. “A lot of the runs this year will be paying tribute to Betty.”

With Betty’s help, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $ 550 million worldwide for cancer research.

There will be 115 Terry Fox Runs throughout the province this year.
