The leader of the NDP downplays latest Angus Reid polling numbers

Despite ongoing attempts to paint him as bad for BC’s economy, NDP leader Adrian Dix is still the most popular choice for premier in the latest Angus Reid public opinion poll.

Dix says his refusal to go negative seems to be working against all his detractors including Premier Christy Clark.

As for whether he’s worried about the NDP dropping five points from May when they had 50% voter support, Dix says “Oh, you know, we have one poll at 45, we had another at 44, we had another at 48, we had another at 50. I mean, what I worry about is making sure that we’re doing the right thing. I’m going to continue to do what I’m doing which is to be positive.”

Dix says his main competition in next year’s election isn’t another politician or party.

He’s more worried about a disturbing trend amongst BC voters.

“The main opponent of the NDP is not the Liberal party or the Conservative party or the Green party. The main opponent of the NDP is apathy.”

Dix says, during the last election in 2009, only half of the registered voters in this province bothered to cast a ballot.

“I’m concerned that fewer and fewer people are voting in politics. I want to expand the number of voters and so, that’s why we’re staying positive, we’re working hard, but I don’t take anything for granted. I’m going to keep working hard on it.”

Numbers released today show Dix has 26% support as the best choice for premier compared to clark’s 15%.
