The NDP say the governments sale of liquor distribution services is “tainted”

The NDP is calling on the Clark government to cancel the planned sale of liquor distribution services in BC.

Critic Shane Simpson says an internal e-mail from the company “exel logistics” suggests the Liberal friendly firm was hoping to use its contacts to influence the bidding process, Simpson says there is now a perception the tender has been tainted.

He said “will the minister do the right thing, pull the RFP, and engage a credible open process with industry and the public so we can determine whether anyone, other than the BC Liberals, Patrick Kinsella, and Exel logistics are satisfied with what’s happened so far?”

But minister responsible Rich Coleman accused the NDP of smearing the civil servants who are handling the bidding process.

He said “and that question I can only categorize as the most demeaning, insulting and disgusting question I’ve heard relative to the public service of British Columbia since I’ve been here in 16 years.”

Coleman also denied NDP claims the sale will result in higher liquor prices.

The internal e-mail was obtained by investigative reporter Bob Mackin.
